Fitzroy is one of Melbourne’s best suburbs for family-friendly cafes — the inner north has a high density of parents with young kids, and cafes have responded accordingly. Here’s our honest guide after visiting every spot on this list.

1. Cheeky Sparrow — Our Top Pick

The biggest indoor play area of any cafe we’ve visited, and the coffee is genuinely excellent. The kids’ menu is creative rather than just nuggets and chips. Busy on weekends — arrive before 9am or after 2pm.

2. Little Creatures Dining Hall

Huge space that tolerates noise, lots of room between tables, and a kids’ menu that parents actually want to eat off. The outdoor area is great in summer.
