From pram-friendly trails to creek-side adventures, these walks are perfect for little legs and curious minds.
Getting outside with under-5s doesn’t require a dramatic hike — in fact the best walks for toddlers are short, full of interesting things to touch and look at, and have a toilet nearby. Here are our 10 favourites across Melbourne.
1. Merri Creek Trail (Northcote to Coburg)
Flat, pram-friendly, with lots of birds and creek bank to explore. About 2km one way — easy to turn back whenever little legs get tired.
2. Dandenong Ranges — Kokoda Track Memorial Walk
The 1km accessible loop is perfect for preschoolers. Lush rainforest, giant ferns, and a good café at the end.
3. Royal Botanic Gardens Children’s Garden
Free entry, water play, winding paths, and hidey holes. A Melbourne institution for families with young kids.
